This year’s anticipated La Comida Guild Home Tour was back for it 61st year this past December, and with five beautiful homes to tour, it was hard to pick a favorite. But the exquisitely decorated home of Jaime and Xitlalli Marquez was definitely a crowd pleaser. Located near Sierra Avenue on Van Ness extension, this stunning estate, remodeled and furnished by local designer Tanya C. Fajardo, left little to be desired.
The homeowners admitted to appreciating a monochromatic palette, as well as a little “bling,” so Tanya created spaces that blended a soft palette with bold elements for drama. The result is a fusion of elegant pieces, timeless colors, and comfortable spaces that the homeowner and their family can enjoy for years.
Upon entering the property, the stunning courtyard cherub fountain and fireplace beckon all who approach. Inside the home, you walk into a warm open space with elaborate furnishings, interesting blends of textures, and spectacular crystal lighting suited for a queen. The kitchen is the perfect place for Xitlalli to prepare traditional meals from her homeland as she interacts with the family in the adjoining room. It boasts metallic champagne accented glazed cabinets and a recently installed custom island with contemporary corbels and striking granite countertops. Placed above this grand island is a striking and modern crystal embellished and glass pendant that will make your jaw drop. The dining room is graced with a chic acrylic and bronze base table by Spectrum and is paired with custom upholstered velvet chairs by Marge Carson. Flanking this showpiece are two curios showcasing the homeowners’ Versace place settings and crystal. The dining nook, with its upholstered chairs and acrylic legs, surround the mirrored based table by John Richards.
The powder room to the left of the master bedroom is an eclectic blend featuring hand-troweled diamond dust plastered walls and ceiling. It also has a sculptured polished steel sink adorned with an ornate hand painted enameled drain cover which could easily be confused with a piece of jewelry, and is illuminated by a laser cut steel and crystal drum light. The convenience of its location and the texture and feel of the space offer guests a unique and comfortable refuge.
The office furniture by John Richards, along with darker toned wallpaper, was selected to give the area a more masculine European flair. Tanya’s paintings are also showcased throughout the home, including the “Hand of God” abstract above the living room mantle. Tanya used only palette knives to create the gorgeous piece, and it fits perfectly in the space while adding depth and warmth to the room.
